Iowa Corn Indy 250 Advance
May 31, 2012
NEWTON, IA – May 31, 2012 – Izod INDYCAR drivers Josef Newgarden and Ed Carpenter were in town yesterday to promote the upcoming Iowa Corn Indy 250 on June 23. The drivers, who came from a test at Milwaukee on Tuesday night, also participated in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Shop-A-Thon at the Hy-Vee in Johnston.
“Having two drivers, two personalities, like Josef and Ed in town to promote your upcoming race really gets fans excited,” said Stan Clement, president of Iowa Speedway.
The two drivers spent the morning traveling around Des Moines to several radio and TV interviews; plus they even made a stop out at the Glen Oaks Country Club, which was holding a Pro-Am golf event.
The Iowa Corn Indy 250 Shop-A-Thon had the drivers, fans, and members of Iowa Corn deciphering a grocery list of clues. Once they decoded the clues, the three members of each team ran around the Hy-Vee grocery store in Johnston filling up their cart with corn based products. The Iowa Corn Growers Association was also on-hand at Hy-Vee handing out several gift certificates for ethanol gas.
The next event weekend gets the green flag on Friday, June 22 with the Casey’s General Store USAC Challenge and the Iowa Corn Indy 250 qualifying heat races. Then, the Iowa Speedway Foundation 100 Star Mazda race, the Sukup 100 Firestone Indy Lights race and the Iowa Corn Indy 250 race all happen on Saturday, June 23.
