NASCAR Nationwide Haulers to Parade Through Downtown Des Moines

Transporters on display at Prairie Meadows afterward

NEWTON, Iowa – July 26, 2012 – In advance to the U.S. Cellular 250 presented by the Enlist ™ Weed Control System, NASCAR Nationwide Series transporters will be involved in a Hauler Parade through the downtown streets of Des Moines. Starting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, the general public is invited to line Locust Street from 12th St to Pennsylvania Ave., west of the Des Moines River, to watch the team trucks roll through.

“This is a huge highlight for anyone who has ever attended a NASCAR event,” said Greg Edwards, President and CEO of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The artwork and customization you will see on these haulers is as exciting as the actual race cars. You won’t want to miss it.”

Joe Balash, NASCAR Nationwide Series director, expressed his excitement about the event.

“Our hauler drivers always enjoy bringing their rigs through the hometown streets of our great fans,” said Balash. “Watching them maneuver through downtown Des Moines will be a unique treat for everyone and a perfect reminder for the upcoming US Cellular 250.”

Iowa Speedway CEO Doug Fritz echoed Balash’s enthusiasm.

“With Nationwide Insurance having such a major presence in Des Moines and the U.S. Cellular 250 presented by the Enlist ™ Control System being the biggest race of the year at Iowa Speedway, it only seemed natural to have the first ever hauler parade through Des Moines associated with this race weekend,” Fritz said.

The public is also invited to join Rusty Wallace at Prairie Meadows where the transporters will be on display following the Hauler Parade, from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event is free and open to people of all ages.

“This free, public event will allow race and non-race fans a chance to view some of the amazing trucks and haulers that are a big part of the NASCAR culture,” said Fritz.

Tickets for the ‘Pork Be Inspired 150’ NASCAR K&N Pro Series on Friday, August 3, start at $20 and ‘U.S. Cellular 250 presented by the Enlist ™ Weed Control System’ NASCAR Nationwide Series on Saturday, August 4 start at $55, and are available online at www.iowaspeedway.com, or by calling 1-866-RUSTY-GO (787-8946).
