‘Rusty’s Roast’ to Celebrate the Career of The King, Richard Petty

Iowa Speedway hosting third ‘Rusty’s Roast’ where NASCAR legends unite in support of The NASCAR Foundation and Iowa Speedway Foundation

Newton, Iowa – August 3, 2012 – For the third time since 2009, Rusty’s Roast, a charity fundraiser benefiting The NASCAR Foundation and Iowa Speedway Foundation, will take place at Iowa Speedway on Thursday, September 13. This year’s ‘Rusty’s Roast, Celebrating the Career of Richard Petty,’ will feature honored speakers including Mike Helton, NASCAR President and The NASCAR Foundation board member; Dale Inman, 2012 NASCAR Hall of Famer and former Crew Chief for Richard Petty; Michael Annett, NASCAR Nationwide Series and Richard Petty Motorsports driver; and, Rusty Wallace, Iowa Speedway Designer and The NASCAR Foundation board member who will be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in January 2013.

“It’s just a real honor to be asked to be a part of this event,” said Petty. “I’ve been racing all my life, and it’s always special to be appreciated by the fans and fellow drivers.  This event is all about raising money for charity too.  Hopefully, we can get a lot of people to come out, have some fun and make a difference too.”

Another NASCAR legend echoed the thought about uniting to raise money for the charities.

“We started Rusty’s Roast a few years ago, and we had a blast with it,” said Wallace. “We have raised more than $400,000 for some great charities, and we hope to continue making a difference in people’s lives by uniting once again in September. Who better to honor than Richard Petty for the positive impact he has made on our sport.”

‘Rusty’s Roast, Celebrating the Career of Richard Petty’ will be held just two days prior to the final race of the 2012 race season at Iowa Speedway – the American Ethanol 200 presented by Hy-Vee NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Starting at 5:00 PM, the night will consist of a cocktail reception, dinner, celebration of Richard Petty and live auction at the Newton Club at Iowa Speedway.

"Talk about a perfect evening -- it's all about the great Richard Petty and two charitable organizations," said The NASCAR Foundation Chairwoman Betty Jane France. "In the process, everyone is going to have a lot of fun. Rusty's Roast is a unique concept that continues to grow. The NASCAR Foundation is proud to be associated with this event."

Fans can be part of the festivities by calling The NASCAR Foundation at (704) 348-9685 to reserve VIP table spots (including Host Table to sit with the King) or by visiting NASCAR.COM/foundation to get individual tickets.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet three NASCAR Hall of Fame members: Richard Petty, the driver who has the most wins and tied for most championships – seven – in NASCAR history; Dale Inman, the all-time record holder for most wins as a crew chief; and Rusty Wallace, who has 55 career wins along with one championship and one of the newest members of the Hall.

“We are very excited that everyone in attendance at the event will be able to meet, take pictures, and get autographs from three NASCAR Hall of Fame members,” said Iowa Speedway Chairman Conrad Clement.
