ASA MIDWEST TOUR PREPARING FOR ITS FOURTH VISIT TO IOWA SPEEDWAY
The ASA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings will be making their fourth appearance to “America’s Place to Race” on Friday, September 14th with the running of the Iowa 150. The 2012 season has been one of the most competitive seasons so far in their six-year history.
The Iowa 150 will be the tenth of their twelve-event season schedule. Through eight events, the popular Super Late Model tour has had seven different winners. Travis Sauter is the only driver with two victories so far this season with wins at the Milwaukee Mile and Madison International Speedway.
Other winners so far this season includes: Andrew Morrissey (Madison International Speedway), Dan Fredrickson (State Park Speedway), Brian Campbell (Berlin Raceway), Jonathan Eilen (Marshfield Motor Speedway), Eddie Hoffman (Grundy County Speedway) and Nathan Haseleu (Norway Speedway).
Jonathan Eilen has been sitting on top of the point standings throughout the season and has a 36-point lead over Chris Weinkauf and a 39-point lead over Chris Wimmer going into this weekend’s event at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. Nathan Haseleu’s win last weekend at Norway Speedway has brought him within 56 points to Eilen.
Eilen has had strong runs at Iowa Speedway. He finished second to Tim Schendel in 2008 and third to Chris Wimmer in 2009. He finished tenth in last year’s event.
Schendel has the best record in the three ASA Midwest Tour events at Iowa Speedway. Along with his win in 2008, he finished second in 2009 and third last year.
Jeff Choquette and Johnny Sauter are planning on doing double duty on September 14-15. Choquette is looking to defend his 2011 victory.
Stephen Wallace, son of Iowa Speedway designer and 2012 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee Rusty Wallace, is also planning to compete in the event along with some of the best drivers in Super Late Model racing today.
Along with the veteran field of drivers, the Iowa Speedway fans will have a chance to see 2012 ASA Midwest Tour Rookie contenders Matt Tifft, Cardell Potter, Jason Weinkauf, and Austin Luedtke.
