Pickler & Currington Headline 2009 Iowa Speedway Concert Series
(Newton, IA) – Thursday, February 26 - Kellie Pickler and Billy Currington, two of the country’s top entertainers, will headline the concert series providing live pre-race and post-race entertainment on race weekends this year at Iowa Speedway. All performances will be held on the Grinnell Mutual Concert Stage.
Two-time Grammy nominated country singer Jake Owen kicks off the 2009 concert series on May 16 during the Pride of Iowa/NASCAR Weekend. This same weekend, on May 17, an Iowa Native from Pella, country artist Jason Brown will perform. Hairball, the ultimate“80’s Rock” impersonation band, entertains on June 20 IndyCar Series weekend with their unforgettable high-energy performance. Country artist Shannon Brown performs on June 21 showcasing her debut album, Corn Fed, which is fitting since Brown happens to be a corn-fed Iowan from Spirit Lake.
On July 10, Iowa Speedway will present a new “country outlaw” band from Des Moines called Douglas Acres for the Star Mazda/ARCA Series weekend. Country artist Eric Church will perform on July 11. Church played at the 2007 Iowa State Fair opening for country favorite, Dierks Bentley.
Kellie Pickler entertains on July 31 during the USAC/ NASCAR Nationwide weekend. Pickler got her big break on the FOX reality show, American Idol. Meanwhile, country artist James Otto will perform on August 1. On September 4 during the Truck Series weekend, there will be a performance by a well-known country artist whose name cannot yet be released.
Last but definitely not least – country artist Billy Currington will perform September 19 during the USAR/ASA Weekend at Iowa Speedway.
Iowa Speedway President Jerry Jauron said this year’s concert series has broad appeal. “These are the finest bands anywhere and our growing reputation for great live entertainment has helped us sell nearly 20,000 season tickets for the coming season. Talk about added value for a single race ticket. We offer the finest pre-race and post-race entertainment anywhere, combined with four NASCAR Series races and an IndyCar Series race among others. It doesn’t get any better.”
