‘Purses with Purpose’ is Huge Success
NEWTON, Iowa – February 10, 2012 – Last night, February 9, the Iowa Speedway Foundation held the first time event ‘Purses with Purpose.’ The night was an overwhelming success with over 100 people in attendance, bidding on 78 ‘purses’ up for auction. Both private individuals and business donated purses, bags, or baskets to the event, while eight of the donated items were up on the live auction block. Even though the event was centered around purses, there was plenty of items for guys, too.
Over $7,000 was raised for the Iowa Speedway Foundation and Haven of Hope, an emergency, short-term housing facility. Debb Smith, who is the director of the Iowa Speedway Foundation, said this event could not have happened without the support of the community and its’ members.
“We set out with a goal of getting forty to fifty purses, for both the live and silent auction, and we came up with almost double our goal – that is truly wonderful,” Smith said. “With help from Andy Anderson and Mike Leeds, who were on the dueling pianos and Allan Good and Jamie Grout, who were our auctioneer and emcee, all those who came out had a great time, and this event will surly be something we do again.”
