Deadline Approaching for 8K and 150 Yard Dash

NEWTON, Iowa – February 13, 2012 – The early registration date for the April 21, 8K race and 150 yard dash is just around the turn. Those wishing to sign up for the event need to register by February 15 for the early bird price of $20 for one event and $25 for both, those who enter the event after that date will pay $35 for one event or $45 for both events.

Melissa Butler, race organizer and Progress Industries Communications Director, says dozens of people have already signed up and expressed interest in both events.

“We are ahead of last year’s early sign up, and we are expecting that number to jump before the February 15 deadline, too,” said Butler. “We are encouraging people to sign up today, even if you have not run in years if you start training today you will do just fine in the distance portion of the event.”

The 8K or five-mile race will start at the exit of pit road with the firing of the starter’s pistol, continue out and around the Speedway property, enter back through the infield tunnel, and finish with a lap around the 7/8-mile tri-oval. The 150 yard dash will be more for the entertainment than the competition. Both men and women will be required to run in heels that are at least three inches in height.

Walkers and runners who register for the race by February 15 will only have to pay $20 for one event or $25 for both. Registrations received after that date, and through race day, will be charged $35.00 for one event or $45 for both. Sign up on-line at www.active.com or visit www.iowaspeedway.com to download a copy of the registration form.
