WIMMER WANTS THE PODIUM THIS FRIDAY NIGHT AT IOWA SPEEDWAY

This Friday night, September 14th, the ASA Midwest Tour presented by SCAG Power Equipment and Lester Buildings will make their fourth visit to the famed Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA.

"Iowa Speedway is always one of my favorite tracks and I look forward to going there every year. Iowa is such a neat track, it's big, it's fast and makes a lot of guys want to come up and race," said ECHO and ECHO Bear Cat Touring Star Chris Wimmer, driver of the Preval sponsored Chevrolet.

In 2009 while Tim Schendel and Jonathan Eilen were battling it out for the lead in the final laps, Chris Wimmer took advantage of their fight for the top spot and snuck by on the inside surprising them both and taking away the win.

Wimmer seems to adapt to bigger race tracks quite well and he credits that to his racing experience and the fortunate opportunities to have raced some big tracks back when he was doing some NASCAR stuff.  "Because I've had experience at bigger tracks it makes me more comfortable out there than some of the other drivers I think," said Wimmer.

Similar to the event at the Milwaukee Mile earlier this season, Iowa Speedway will bring in some of the top drivers in the country. With drivers like Johnny Sauter, Steven Wallace and other "southern boys," there will be even more talent to contend with.

But this does not impact Wimmer's confidence for Friday one bit. "I feel pretty good. I built a new Pathfinder Chassis at the beginning of the year and as we continue to race we seem to learn more and more about it."

Wimmer is among three winners in as many races for the ASAMT at Iowa Speedway. Tim Schendel won in 2008, Wimmer in '09 and Jeff Choquette in 2011. In addition to Schendel and Choquette, Wimmer also looks to see current point leader Jonathan Eilen as one to beat.

"We actually didn't race that well last year and I'm hoping to have a good run with the Preval Chevy and hopefully compete for the win," said Wimmer.

This event will be held in conjunction with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series who will run on Saturday.  ASA Midwest Tour Qualifying will begin at 4:30pm on Friday evening. Driver introductions will be at 7:30pm followed by the 150 lap race at 8:00pm.

Tickets for the ‘3M 150’ start at just $20, and are available online at the track’s official website, www.iowaspeedway.com, or by calling the toll-free ticketing line at 866-RUSTY-GO (787-8946).
