Iowa Speedway 101
Known as The Fastest Short Track on the Planet due to the unparalleled speeds that IndyCar drivers reach while competing here, Iowa Speedway is a favorite destination for open wheel and stock car drivers alike. The track earned its designation based upon practice laps run by IndyCar drivers that exceed 186 miles per hour, ten MPHs faster than recorded at any other short track.
Iowa’s paved oval is unique because it is…
- The only track that is owned and raced at by NASCAR
- The only track designed by a former driver – NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace
- The only 7/8 mile asphalt oval in the world
- The only major professional sports venue in the state of Iowa
The banking of the track is ten degrees on the frontstretch and four degrees on the backstretch. The turns are progressively banked starting from 12 degrees at the bottom and escalating to 14 in the top line.
Four drivers have won three races at Iowa Speedway. NASCAR drivers Brad Keselowski (2009, 2013 and 2014), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (twice in 2011 and once in 2012) and Erik Jones (2014, 2015 and 2016) and IndyCar’s Ryan Hunter-Reay (2012, 2014 and 2015).
Logos & Branding
The current branding elements and logos have been thoughtfully developed to reflect the core qualities and characteristics of this wonderful racetrack, the racing, our staff, and our fans. During the development process, emphasis was placed on designing a logo that symbolized the uniqueness of the track and the style of racing. We identified a natural opportunity to integrate our track length, a one-of-a-kind 7/8 mile, with our track’s initials, “IS”.
Along with that, we were able to characterize the edginess of our brand by utilizing an italic font with sharp edges. Since we are considered to be THE FASTEST SHORT TRACK ON THE PLANET, we complemented the integration and font style with a sharp star, which is often times utilized on maps to identify capitals, landmarks, monuments, and other significant locations. Further, the star also symbolizes our tradition of crowning the next champions and superstars in motorsports.
Camping is one of the most popular parts of a race weekend at Iowa Speedway and spots are available for the upcoming season.
